Parts of the Japanese Soroban: reckoning beam, upper deck (heavenly beads value 5), lower deck (earthly beads value 1). Correct finger positioning (thumb and index finger coordination) and clearing technique.
Single-digit and double-digit direct movements without bead combination formulas. Speed drill exercises to build muscle memory, finger agility, and numeric accuracy.
Complements of 5 (Small Friends: +4 = +5 -1, etc.) and Complements of 10 (Big Friends: +9 = +10 -1, etc.) for both addition and subtraction. Combination friend formulas (+6, +7, +8, +9) with carrying and borrowing rules.
